Privacy Policy
GradeScroll Privacy Policy
Effective date: April 19, 2026
Overview
GradeScroll helps students turn learning material into study cards and review sessions. This policy explains what data GradeScroll collects, how it is collected, how it is used, how service providers process it, and how to request access, correction, export, or deletion.
Data We Collect
Account and identifiers: name, email address, user ID, authentication provider details, sign-in method, and account session data.
User content: notes, typed text, PDFs, file names and document metadata, photos of notes, camera images, extracted text, generated study cards, generated notes, explanations, decks, folders, and edits you make in the app.
Study activity: study modes, onboarding choices, goals, card answers, weak-card markers, progress, streaks, session activity, preferences, and app settings.
Purchases: subscription status, product identifiers, entitlement status, receipt-related information, and purchase history needed to unlock paid features.
Usage data and diagnostics: app events, screen or feature usage, app lifecycle events, onboarding answers, subscription screen interactions, generation attempts, device and app version information, operating system, coarse technical region or locale information, errors, performance signals, and crash or troubleshooting details.
Support communications: email messages, feedback, support requests, and related contact details when you email us.
How We Collect Data
We collect data you provide directly, data created as you use GradeScroll, data received from authentication and payment providers, and technical data sent by the app or device to operate and secure the service.
How We Use Information
We use data to create and manage accounts, authenticate users, generate study cards and notes, save decks, personalize study modes, maintain progress and streaks, restore purchases, provide support, diagnose issues, improve reliability, prevent abuse, protect the service, and comply with legal obligations.
GradeScroll does not sell personal information. GradeScroll does not use your notes, uploads, generated cards, or study activity to track you across other companies' apps or websites for third-party advertising.
AI Uploads and Generated Study Material
When you ask GradeScroll to generate cards or notes, the study material you provide is sent to GradeScroll servers and AI processing providers so the requested study content can be created. This may include pasted text, typed notes, PDFs, photos, camera images, extracted text, selected study mode, selected output language, and related request details needed to process the generation.
AI providers return generated cards, summaries, answer choices, explanations, and notes to GradeScroll. GradeScroll stores generated decks and notes so you can review, edit, and study them later. Do not upload material you do not have permission to use, and avoid uploading highly sensitive personal information unless you are comfortable having it processed to provide the generation feature.
Global Study Leaderboards and Sharing
GradeScroll offers a global leaderboard and private friend leagues where you can compete, track ranks, and compare study stats. Participation is entirely optional and is disabled by default. No study scores, Recall Points, accuracy, or streak data are sent to our servers until you explicitly opt in.
If you choose to join the leaderboard, your study statistics (Recall Points, cards reviewed, correct cards, recall accuracy, and current study streak) and your display name will be securely uploaded and synced to our server. You can choose to go anonymous at any time, which hides your display name and avatar from other players. You can also completely opt out and turn off rankings at any time in the Profile settings, which instantly deletes your leaderboard scores and ranking history from our servers.
Analytics and Product Improvement
GradeScroll uses analytics to understand whether the app is working, which screens and features are used, where errors happen, whether purchases and entitlement checks succeed, and how study flows perform. Analytics events may include user or device identifiers, account identifiers, app version, device information, language, subscription plan state, button taps, screen names, generation counts, study progress events, and error details.
We use analytics for app functionality, reliability, fraud and abuse prevention, customer support, and product improvement. We do not use analytics to sell your data or to track you across other companies' apps or websites for third-party advertising.
Service Providers
GradeScroll uses service providers for authentication, account storage, cloud functions, file and text processing, AI study-card generation, analytics, purchase management, hosting, DNS, and email. These may include Appwrite, Apple, Google sign-in, Google Gemini API, PostHog, RevenueCat, Cloudflare, and email providers.
Service providers process data only as needed to provide their services to GradeScroll, subject to their own security and privacy commitments. For example, uploaded learning material may be sent to AI processing services to generate study notes and cards, and purchase data may be sent to payment and subscription services to manage entitlements.
App Store Privacy Disclosures
GradeScroll's App Store privacy labels disclose the data categories used by the app, including contact information, identifiers, user content, purchases, usage data, diagnostics, and product interaction data where applicable.
The App Store label should reflect that user content may be collected for app functionality because notes, PDFs, photos, and generated study material are processed and stored to provide the service. Usage data, diagnostics, identifiers, purchases, and product interaction data may be linked to your account or device for app functionality, analytics, support, and fraud prevention. GradeScroll does not use these categories for third-party advertising tracking.
Retention
We keep data for as long as needed to provide GradeScroll, maintain your account and study history, complete purchases, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent abuse, and maintain security. Uploaded study content and generated cards are kept while your account or deck remains active unless you delete them or request deletion.
Your Privacy Choices
You may request deletion in the GradeScroll app from Profile, Settings, Delete Account. You may also request access, correction, export, or deletion of your personal information by emailing support@gradescroll.app. Some data may be retained where required for security, legal, tax, purchase, or dispute-resolution reasons.
You can stop future collection by deleting the app, signing out, or no longer using GradeScroll. Some requests may require identity verification before we can act on them.
Children
GradeScroll is not directed to children under 13 and is intended for students who are allowed to use online learning tools in their location. If you believe a child provided personal information without appropriate consent, email support@gradescroll.app.
Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards to protect data. No online service can guarantee absolute security.
Changes
We may update this policy as GradeScroll changes. The updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
